Theme Extension
Everything Uppush does on your storefront runs through one thing: the app embed in your theme. Popups, the web push permission prompt, back-in-stock and price-drop buttons, and storefront activity tracking all depend on it.
If the embed is off, all of that stops. Your campaigns still send and your automations still run, but nothing appears on your store — and nothing warns you, because from Shopify's point of view the theme is working fine.
That is why this page is the first thing to check when something on your storefront has quietly stopped working.
Find it under Settings → Theme extension.
Enable it
Click Enable theme extension. This opens the Shopify theme editor with the Uppush embed already selected.
You must then click Save in the theme editor. Opening the editor does not enable anything on its own — this is the step people miss.
Enable it manually
If the button does not switch the embed on, do it by hand:
- In Shopify admin, go to Sales channels → Online Store → Themes.
- On your current theme, click Customize.
- Open App embeds in the left sidebar.
- Turn on the Uppush embed.
- Click Save.
Shopify's own guide to app embeds covers the same steps.
After changing your theme
The embed belongs to a theme, not to your store. Publish a different theme, duplicate one, or restore a backup, and the new theme starts without the Uppush embed unless it was enabled there too.
This is the single most common reason a store suddenly stops showing popups. Make checking this page part of your routine after any theme change — including a theme update from your theme developer, which can replace the live theme.

What stops without it
| Feature | Without the embed |
|---|---|
| Popups | Never appear |
| Web push permission prompt | Never appears, so you collect no new subscribers |
| Back-in-stock / price-drop buttons | Do not render on product pages |
| Activity tracking | Collects nothing |
| Email and push campaigns | Unaffected — they still send |
| Automations | Unaffected — they still run on existing data |
Notes
Enable it on the theme your customers actually see. Turning it on in an unpublished draft changes nothing on the live store.
If you use a theme preview or a staging theme for testing, enable the embed there as well, or your tests will not reflect the live store.
The embed loads asynchronously. It does not block your storefront from rendering — see Will Uppush slow down my store?
Troubleshooting
Popups stopped appearing and nothing else changed.
Check this page first, then check whether the theme was recently published, duplicated or updated. This accounts for most cases.
The page says the extension is not enabled, but I turned it on.
You almost certainly did not click Save in the theme editor, or you enabled it on a theme that is not the published one.
It works on desktop but not for some visitors.
That is not an embed problem — the embed is either on for everyone or off for everyone. Look at your popup's display rules instead, under Rules.
